How do I send my SEVIS immigration file to UT Dallas?
This is not a document. It is your electronic immigration file in the SEVIS database. Talk to the immigration advisor at the school that has your SEVIS record about the transfer process.
When should I apply for my I-20 transfer?
Submit your SEVIS documents and proof of immigration to UT Dallas ISO before class begins. If you are traveling abroad for the summer, submit your documents well in advance to re-enter the United States on your UT Dallas I-20. you can see theUT Dallas academic calendarto display the semester start date.
Transfer students must begin classes at UT Dallas in the next available semester and must begin classes within 5 months of the transfer posting date or program completion date, whichever comes first.
If you do not start classes within 5 months of your date of entry, you must leave the United States and apply for an initial I-20.
Do I have to do summer courses?
Students transferring to UT Dallas may be required to have a summer session prior to completing a full academic year (two long semesters).
Do I need a new visa?
If you remain in the US while changing schools, you do not need a new visa. If your F-1 visa is still valid, you can still use it for international travel, even if you have changed schools. Changing schools does not invalidate your visa.
If you are unable to start classes at UT Dallas within five months of your transfer posting date, you may receive an initial I-20, leave the United States, and return to the United States up to 30 days before your new transfer date. begin. First-year F-1 students may enter the United States up to 30 days prior to the program start date listed on their I-20. Page 1 of the I-20 lists the earliest date a student can enter the United States. Beginning students must use their most recent I-20 to travel to the United States.
Upon arrival in the US, you must inform the ISO. This is a Department of Homeland Security requirement.We call this "new student registration." There are three steps. you should graduatethe threeuntil the beginning of class.
- UpdateGalaxywith a new US address. You must notify the UTD Galaxy portal within 10 days of receiving your new address. ISO will report your new address to DHS. Address information can be updated in the Profile section.
- If you are initially staying at a temporary residence (hotel, airline B&B, etc.), you can report your temporary address to Galaxy first and update the information later, after you move to your permanent residence.
- Attend the workshop on how to maintain F-1 status. You have the opportunity to participate in a face-to-face or virtual workshop. At the end of the session, you will have to answer a questionnaire in order for your participation to be counted. See below for available dates and registration details.*

- Submit immigration documentsiComet(afterCompletion of the workshop and update of the address). After attending an F-1 status workshop and providing your US address, submit a copy of your signed Form I-20, valid F-1 visa, and Form I-94. Log in to iComet, then click Prospective Students, then New Student Registration and complete the Electronic Immigration Document Verification Form.

Formula I-20
Your UT Dallas Form I-20 is not valid until you sign page one. Send a signed copy to the ISO. You will maintain a valid and current Form I-20 during your stay in the United States.
F-1 view
A current and valid visa is required to travel to the United States. Submit a copy of the visa page in your passport.
Formula I-94
The I-94 is issued at the port of entry to the United States. Depending on where you enter the United States, you may be given a blank card or asked to obtain your I-94 information online. Both versions are valid.
- Card: If you receive a blank card, please send a double-sided copy to the ISO.
- Electronic: If you have a stamp in your passport, but no card, get your ownInformation I-94online.* Send a copy of the information you access online to ISO. (See Sending documents.)
*To claim your I-94 online, you will be required to complete a short online form. Passport information and date of arrival will be requested. If you get an error, try again with a different format for your name. For example, enter it as it is on your passport and then as it is on the US visa. Print a copy of the I-94 for your records. You will need it for many purposes, e.g. B. for driver's license and social security card applications. Make sure all the information is in English.
If the information online is incorrect or cannot be found, the visitor can obtain a new I-94 from the local authority.Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Deferred Inspection.

I am unable to make the program start date listed on my I-20. What are my options?
The start date of your I-20 program determines when you can travel to the United States. You can participate up to 30 days before the start date of the program. If you are trying to join after the program start date, you may do soMeet challenges at the port of entry. The ISO recommends deferring your admission and Form I-20 for a future semester if you cannot arrive in the United States before the start of classes.
I am abroad, is there a deadline to submit my documents to the ISO for my I-20 to be issued?
No, there is no deadline. It is in your best interest to submit your documentation as soon as possible so that you can receive your I-20 andrequest your visa.

I will complete my degree in less time than indicated on my I-20. Can you issue an I-20 with a shorter schedule?
The Department of Homeland Security requires UT Dallas to establish a program duration for the I-20 issued by the ISO. The length of the program is determined by the university and your I-20 reflects the standard length of the program.
Please note that UT Dallas students are free to choose completion of the program. The duration of the program is average. Some students can complete a program in less time, while others take longer. However, the I-20 must reflect the average time.
The name of my course on my I-20 is different. How can I change it?
USCIS requires all institutions to use a standard code for all programs. The program name that appears on the I-20 is the name provided by USCIS, and the program code is the code that UT Dallas uses to identify your current program name.

The Form I-20 lists a student's program start date. F-1 and M-1 student visas can be issued up to 120 days in advance of the student's course of study start date. Students are expected to have the original Form I-20 at their visa interview.
How long does it take for I-20 to be issued? ›The date is usually on or around your last day of classes of your current term. After receipt of all required documents, it takes about 2–3 weeks for your I-20 to be processed.
