  • A Monthly Active User (MAU) is a unique user who authenticates during a given month. For example, a user who authenticates multiple times in a given month is counted as one MAU. Users are not billed for subsequent MAUs within a month, nor are they inactive users.

  • Authentication checks may include:

    • Active, interactive user login;
    • Passive, non-interactive login (e.g. single login, login, login, token refresh and password change)

    Other operations included in the authentication are: logging into the portal; take advantage of the invitation; authentication to perform administrator actions; and when the application changes the refresh token to a new identity token or access token for that user.

  • Enterprise Agreement customers are eligible to switch to MAU-based billing, with 50,000 free MAUs at each tier and a low flat rate for incremental MAUs. Contact your Microsoft partner or representative for more information.
